A 46-year-old man was slashed on the No. 2 subway train on the Upper West Side of Manhattan early Tuesday morning. The attack occurred around 4:30 a.m. when a 54-year-old suspect slashed the victim's neck, head, left elbow, and shoulder. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital and is reported to be stable. The police recovered a knife at the scene and arrested the suspect, who did not appear to know the victim. This incident comes as the NYPD has increased its presence in the subway system, with 300 officers now patrolling overnight. Governor Kathy Hochul ordered the deployment of two officers on each subway train from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. to enhance safety. Crime in the subway has decreased significantly in recent months, with major crimes down by over 36% compared to last year.
